International Rory Stennett Day (IRSD)

The annual staging of International Rory Stennett Day was quite successful. This year several companies in corporate Jamaica came together to clean Fort Rocky on the Palisadoes strip.

The man of the hour represented LIME but teams like Hillel Academy, Digicel, Nestle, NEM Insurance (and others you may see in the pictures) deserve an honourable mention.

International Rory Stennett Day

I was going to insert a witty comment about children under 10 at the event but I’ve been censored by my editor.

There was a small party in the evening with a few top-ranking members of the committee and there should be a beach visit (not cleanup) next week. I postponed the beach-flex because I thought Jamaica going to flood.

Those will be uploaded in time.

New Theme and New Things

Geeky-sexy cool.

I am testing whether infusing sex into the first few words of my post improves the hit rate. The stats will  prove/disprove my theory. I am using a new theme and have attempted to remove the unnecessary clutter from my sidebar. I hope that makes it more readable. Also, I am going to try to pick a cool video (whether music or otherwise) on each of my posts. Today it is My Heart, which has absolutely nothing to do with what I want to talk about.

The Beesneeses

I do not think I have told anyone about my personal  exploits. I have a pretty great (sweet) job  working for LIME that is quite fulfilling. However, I also have hobbies and different initiatives that I do in my spare time. These may/may not be income generating.

E-Merge

I think I’ve tried every endeavour at least once. I will tell you about my pre-college initiatives another time. However, while in college I set up a company with my best friend called Dynamic Horizons with the intention of creating an e-commerce mall. A friend of mine, Mike, established this iteration of it. I mean, I’m not saying I inspired Mike to create it. However Damion and I were young and had no money etc. I think we are totally over this idea. Besides, from what I’ve gathered Jamaica isn’t ready for this yet.

Networking

The next thing I tried was physical networking. I worked with a couple charities to make it work. I teamed up with my friend Jay and spent some time wiring a post-office, a police station and a church. That was a lot of fun! Networking, IT in general, is a saturated area but is also not properly developed for the small to medium business customer segment. I haven’t spent too much  time thinking about it since, but it is worth a second look. I will probably get back into this within the next 12 months.

Bushing

Damion and I were also into landscaping. That was probably the most hilarious part of my set of endeavours. Imagine me with a cutlass. I know, it looks as funny as you think it does. Total misfit. We soon hired someone to do the work and focused on management of it in terms of scheduling and quality. Again, this is another area that has great potential, even if it seems saturated. The big players charge extremely high rates and the small players are fractured. I may think about this again, but not right now.

Sado-Masochism?

The project that is now occupying my spare time is agriculture, and more specifically apiculture. Bee Keeping is Jason’s idea. We just set up a partnership, it is called S&M Agricultural Products. I know right! S&M, ROFL!

I am kinda hoping that when someone searches for S&M that they will find our honey and pollen site. Imagine their disappointment. IKR!

In all seriousness, the bee thing is looking interesting. By January we should have 50 boxes of bees supered twice and harvesting profitable quantities of pollen and honey. I am applying all the skills I acquired in business school (just concluded that actually) to make this work. I anticipate that in January I will  be on to the next investment or venture.

In all this my mother has been there to laugh at me and cheer me on. I am a mama’s boy, I know. She always supports my ideas and for that I am eternally grateful. She may not be able to offer resources but advice and moral support are powerful.

Things Keep Increasing

I wonder if this is how Skyjuice (the disc jockey) feels. If you don’t know who Skyjuice is check the video from 1:05 to 1:30.

I started the personal abs routine but I stopped at day 3. Why did I stop? Because it hurts! My abdominal muscles seem to be fine now so I plan to try the 3D-Leg Raises again today. I took some belly pics but I am afraid to post them. I mean, embarrassing. However, I will certainly post them if I suddenly get a six pack so I can show off. I know, unfair.

I benched 145lbs. I think it is 145lbs because my brother benched 175lbs and then dropped 50lbs and I was given 20lbs. (175-50+20=) Therefore on this third day of April in the year two-thousand and ten another milestone was reached. In two weeks I want to bench 175 and in three weeks I want to squat 200lbs.

Finally, I have invested another ton of money (6k on food that will last 2weeks and 9k in trainer fees plus 4k in gym membership). If I do not get to the target by May 1 you may hear a different tune from me.

Unrelated

Big up to CeCile. I mentioned that I couldn’t hear her during Zip-Link live and she took time out of her busy schedule in France to respond to me. I mean. Wow. The dancer with the hat in this video is a Wolmerian. He was once called Sponge-bob but he is now Global Bob. Wolmerian from Prep to High.

(@rorystennett am not in frankfurt hun I’m in France I cud hear don’t know why zip cudnt about 10 hours ago via UberTwitter in reply to rorystennett) (My Tweet is here)

Sting 2008

This years’ Sting was billed as being the settlement of all confrontation. For years Vybz Kartel and Mavado (or is it Movado?) have been throwing words in the dancehall in a songwriting clash.

Finally the event came where the two would face each other in an open lyrical confrontation.

Sting Clash Part 1

Sting Clash Part 2

The Gleaner said that Mavado won. I think that is complete idiocy. Who do you agree with?

Updates from SLU

I am blogging to you from St. Lucia. It is a beautiful but very small island in the Caribbean. The population is about 160,000 which when compared to Jamaica is tiny.

The shocking thing that I find hard to get used to is seeing everyone everywhere. Therefore the same people I work with are the people I see at the clubs and also in the supermarkets or just generally in the town.

I have more to say about my change in outlook. At first I was just going to save money for the next 2 years and try to eventually buy my own home. Sunday I missed my flight to St. Lucia while trying to do a presentation at school, which I didn’t do. After that experience I decided that I am going to get my own vehicle. I am looking at a 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer (black) as my next move. The price is right and the condition should be good. I love Lancer- it has great features and fuel economy while being comfortable and attractive.

After making the flight the day after I stopped over in Barbados and missed my connecting flight to St. Lucia. Two missed flights to one destination. I was almost stranded in the airport but thanks to my VP and HOD I was able to sleep in a comfortable bed.

Something is trying to speak to me here. Yesterday I bought a shirt for 155EC. I usually don’t shop for myself. My girlfriend normally takes care of that stuff so I feel like I was tricked by the store clerk who I asked to pick something out that goes with Black and is semi-formal. I plan to return it today- we’ll see how that works out. I may have to employ my Jamaican/yard-man roots to get that done. That much money can buy breakfast and dinner for the rest of the week!

A Stitch in Time

So the Hurricane has come and gone. I still have my roof- minus several shingles and for the most part we are all dry. I lost electricity for a total of six days and almost lost my mind. I have now discovered that I am a slave to the light. I tried walking in Darkness but on the final day I couldn’t take it anymore. My lack of light (plus the random temperature changes and some allergens) made me quite sick. I have some flu/infection/something that only antibiotics can fix, and Allegra can relieve. I am forbidden to drink anything dairy or cold but atleast my Doctor gave me two days to stay home and recover.

While here I would like to reach level 50- but all the WOW servers are down for maintenance until 11am today.

In other news- I have put my PC building plans on hold yet again. All I need is the RAM and a Case with a PSU but I am holding out a little longer. I need to invest my money. I want to be in a different/stronger position in one year. I therefore will forego that bling system for another month or two. I will not give in to temptation just yet. Check this out- U$860 for a 50″ DLP HDTV. I should buy it now and worry about the consequences later. What I do to discourage myself from it is I remember that is how some people get AIDS.

In essence I am going to take it easy and continue plotting and scheming. One day I will have everything I really want.
