Security Phone Extaordinare
The Nokia 9300 is the boss of security. It has all these cool features built in, so no need to download additional programmes.
Even when the phone is formatted it retains all the secuirity settings and features. Therefore, the same password I used prior to formatting is used afterwards. It has the ability to Auto-lock and even send a text message to the phone to lock it. It doesn’t make sense to steal a phone like this. It is SIM locked, hence no other SIM will work in it. The SIM is locked with its own Pin request information hence changing it will be too stressful.
I am happy I bought this one but for one fundamental missing feature- I need to upgrade in order to get Blackberry.
All Hell just to Get Genuine
I have a legit version of Windows that I acquired with my Gateway Computer several years ago. Though I am genuine there are the pirates who promise a lot of cool additions with their Windows Xp.
So i formatted and set out. Upon installing XP i decided to get the latest updates. OUT of nowhere a barrage of viruses and spyware took over my machine. It somehow changed the permissions on my machine so that I couldn’t load or install any programmes. I later found out it was due to my machine being a DMZ and while I had lots of protection prior to the format I didn’t have any after.
I changed my firewall settings to be totally protected, disconnected my network cable and set out again. My uber legitimate version of XP decided to have a Cyclic Redundancy Error. At 12am this caused some panic. I decided to take the CD out of the drive and get some sleep. Later that day I tried again and everything went smoothly.
Viruses really suck. I have two free programmes that secure me against viruses and spyware. I got them from Free.grisoft.com. They seem quite good. If I get money I will replace the anti-spyware with Spysweeper though. Spysweeper is the BOSS. I am confident that if I could have installed that programme I wouldn’t have to reformat and reinstall.

Eagle has landed
I have finally received my goods from abroad. I picked everything up today: IDE Cables, Bluetooth adapter, USB 2.0 5-port pci adapter and the Card Reader and the blank dvds. I can’t figure out the card reader though. It is supposed to have a usb 2.0 interface behind it but instead I see a plug. Beats me. The manual is no help because it tries to tell me that it should be a plug. To add insult to injury, the manual states I should insert the cd after I connect the USB 2.0.
I had intended to do a fresh install but I can’t bother right now. There are some windows issues I need to resolve but I think backing up comes first. I can finally begin to spread out and use my 3mb adsl connection. IDE Cables fixed my burning problems.
Gotta Love Google
Google has produced another great world ending product- Google Spreadsheet. How cool is that? Now I can upload my spreadsheets that I made using MS Excel and edit then using google. Even my complicated workbooks with multiple sheets that affect each other are no problem with Google Spreadsheet. Google seems bent on putting the office on the internet. Sharing is enabled in case I want to give others viewing or editing access.
This is a revolutionary tool- something we grow to expect with Google.
My life for a Dollar
Lately I’ve been picking up a trend in my personality. I seem to be developing a temporary gain/crackhead mentality. I seem to be prepared to sell anything for a reasonable price. I purchased this item months ago to watch tapes of my Debating glory days. My intention was to use the VCR to effect the conversion of the tapes to dvd or atleast a digital media format. Now I am selling the vcr/dvd combo to my aunt for $5000. I don’t lose. As a matter of fact when that fine day comes and I have my car and my tv capture card I will just pay her a visit, borrow her vcr dvd combo and get what I want.
I tell you though- this has to stop. I try to tell myself this is all because I want a car. Who knows, maybe I will soon be adding a category called Car Tech.
Nokia 9300 and Blackberry
The version of my Nokia 9300 is 5.22 (07). Seemingly I need one of the following three versions: 5.22(1), (6), (7). The only way to get Blackberry service on my Nokia is through upgrading- otherwise the service won’t be recognized. That bites.
I almost listed my phone on ebay and techjamaica yesterday when I thought it couldn’t be upgraded. I scoured the internet (maybe not too thoroughly as scour) and found 5.22(01). I don’t think that is the same as (1) (says Yatta). Besides when I tried to install that older version- as when I tried to install an upgrade for text messaging and also blackberry- and even when I send text messages- it says “Specified system object is in use”. I decided that it was time to format. All my contacts and calendars were already backed up on my PC at home so it wasn’t a big deal. I had all the SIS files for my programmes at home as well.
To format you have to (and I found this out online) take the battery out, put it back in. When the screen starts up press and hold SHIFT+CTRL+F. A notification comes on screen asking you if you want to format. The MMC shouldn’t have been affected but I removed it to be safe. I always thought/hoped that there was a way to restart the mini-laptop section without removing the battery. Have I been doing the right thing all along? It can’t be right… someone needs to verify.
Aparently there is an official Nokia Service person in Jamaica. He should be able to upgrade my phone to the latest firmware. Nokia said the only way to upgrade was to visit a Nokia service centre- we’ll see. As soon as I get the link to this mystery person I am going to be one step closer to my goal.
